From NYC With Love
Have you ever had the gooey, buttery, pillowy soft cookies at LeVain Bakery in NYC? Two years ago, my good friend, Rebecca, and I scheduled a food tour of NYC based around the closing of the Four Seasons Restaurant. Through the restaurant’s website, we booked a cooking class and gourmet multi-course lunch. This trip was to be a gastronomic delight, where we would stuff ourselves by eating at about 5-6 places each day over a long weekend. After overindulging to the point I got the meat shivers and crashing at around 8PM on a Saturday, we figured our last stop before the Sunday train ride home should be LeVain.
We arrive early that morning to get a spot in line and she hasn’t had her caffiene. She sternly tells me, “once I have my coffee, we can talk”. I peruse the Shaderoom, because I’m a messy Gemini, and give her the space she needs. After waiting in line for about hour, my friend and I were treated to some of the most delicious cookies and croissants we have ever had (she finally got her caffeine and reverted back to her calm and kind self). I brought back a giant bag for husband, which was non-negotiable, and he has been addicted every since.
After giving up sweets-and alcohol-for Lent, this is all my husband wanted. Unfortunately, the UPS/FedEx version just wasn’t the same. The next weekend we found a dupe recipe and I broke out my silpat mat from its hibernation. The results were incredible and my darling’s sweet tooth was finally satiated after a long, dessert-less Lenten season.
